Core 2

News:

Back to School 1/16/2018

We have been on a Winter break since Dec 22, 2017. Looking forward to starting class again Monday, Jan 16th, 2018!

ABOUT Core 2

Core 2 is a diverse, inclusive group of first and second grade students at Thrive Public Schools' Juanita Campus in the Oak Park community of San Diego, California.

The first and second graders in our class are active, creative and resourceful. They love learning, building, and crafting. In addition to differentiated direct instruction and focus on their online learning platforms, students and have time every day to collaborate using "build-it," "shape-it," and "design-it" activities that they choose in self-regulating groups. With a great range of personalities, backgrounds, and unique abilities, our students are quickly developing their cooperation skills and growing genuine empathy and consideration for their teammates in our inclusive and diverse learning space. With big hearts and big minds, we see them model the "golden rule" and the important life lesson that in a community "fair" means everyone gets what they need, not exactly the same.

About Ms. Bolding

Këri Bolding is a teacher who loves every minute of her job. She knows teachers have a unique power to transform lives, because her third grade teacher changed the course of her life with one sentence: “I think you are a genius.” Ms. Bolding began her teaching career at the young age of 19, as a graduate of Stanford University, determined to make a difference through education. While teaching, she also started a nonprofit community center for arts and technology. Years later, Këri took a break from teaching to pursue a career in communications on environmental issues. Her work with climate scientists and energy experts took her to over 22 different countries to build partnerships and dialogue that advance efforts to reduce emissions, save energy, and protect the environment.  After more than a decade away, she realized that nothing makes her happier than teaching.  Këri recently earned a Masters Degree in Education with a specialization of “U.S. Education in the Global Context.” She joined the Thrive team in 2016 with a drive for designing creative and effective lessons aligned with standards for excellence. Këri is an artist, a lifelong learner, and an animal lover.  She wants to spend the rest of her life engaging and advancing students of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.

Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.
